Getting to Samara by Car:

From San Jose

From San Jose follow the Pan American Highway North with signs indicating the way to San Ramon • Follow signs for the Tempisque Bridge (Puente de la Amistad) approximately 3 1/2 hours from San Jose • After crossing the bridge follow signs for Nicoya • You will drive all the way through Nicoya until you find the signs to Samara (24 miles/38 km)

From Liberia

From the Liberia International Airport head south on the main highway (follow signs for Nicoya) •You will go about 1 hour straight on this highway • At Nicoya take a right and drive straight through the town • This will put you onto the road to Samara (don't worry, you should see the signs for Samara) which you follow all the way (24 miles/38 km) to the main street of Samara.

Traveling by bus:

The Alfaro Bus Station in San Jose is 150 meters northwest of the Coca-Cola station. Buses leave daily for Samara at 12:30pm and 6:15pm. The price of a ticket is about 2,500 Colones or approximately US$6 per person. We advise you to buy tickets a day in advance and arrive early.

Arriving Via Airplane:

Daily flights leave from San Jose and arrive in Carrillo (5 minutes from Samara). The flight takes about 40 minutes. One way tickets are generally $71.

Companies like Interbus, Fantasy Bus, and Montezuma expedition offer daily service to Samara from San Jose and various other places. Prices are generally around $30 per person.
